Jewish Heritage Alliance (JHA) is an academically driven cultural and historical nonprofit dedicated to researching, preserving, and promoting the legacy of Sefarad, the Jews of the Iberian Peninsula. Notwithstanding this story’s profound and enduring significance, it has seldom been recognized in the annals of history, educational curricula, and popular awareness. JHA's mission is to bring much-needed attention to this far-reaching Jewish and world history segment. From early arrival to Iberia, we cover Jewish contributions and tribulations, including a brief period known as the "Golden Age," when Jews coexisted with Christians and Muslims, through the Inquisition, massacres, and forced conversions, leading to the Edict of Expulsion of 1492 in Spain and 1496 in Portugal. We follow in the footsteps of the exiled, depicting their travails and illustrating how these brave and tenacious people settled, flourished in, and created new worlds. This phenomenon fittingly includes the transformative effect Jews in early America had on American history, including the 1733 arrival of Dr. Samuel Nunez, his family, and other Jewish refugees in Savannah, Georgia – the theme of Flames of Freedom, with whom we are proud to partner.Â
